Looking Back at Fair Haven and Little Sodus Bay

Book 2 in the series:
Looking Back at Fair Haven, New York

This is the second book in a series of picture books for Sterling and Fair Haven, New York.  This volume contains images from around the bay shore. In search of the earliest photographs of Little Sodus Bay, this is what has been found so far. This bay on Lake Ontario was once a lively shipping port that served as the terminus for the Southern Central Railroad, bringing coal from Pennsylvania. Today its lighthouses are gone and the remnants of Fair Haven’s past are hard to see without knowing where to look. This collection of over 400 photographs serves as a guide to recognizing what remains and provide a glimpse of Little Sodus Bay as your grandparents once knew it.

Description

The story of Fair Haven is unique on the shore of Lake Ontario and yet it shares history with many villages that grew out of the wilderness following the  American Revolution. This wonderful collection of images explores the daily life early photographers captured here. Follow the progress of Little Sodus Bay from its early pioneer days through the development of Fair Haven Beach  State Park and today’s summer cottages. A wonderful voyage for those who  remember as well as those who are unaware of all that once was. Hopefully you will be reminded of some stories you’ve heard and tales you can share from your days on Little Sodus Bay.
