The Fair Haven Census Project

Fair Haven’s history is the history of its people.

The aim of this project is to cross reference the many censuses of Fair Haven. See when families showed up in Fair Haven. When did they disappear from Fair Haven records?

Each census asks slightly different questions. For example, the 1900 census not only asks your age, as most censuses do, but also asks the exact month and year you were born. The 1910 census asks how many children you have given birth to and how many are now living, revealing the child mortality rate for various age groups. The name of a mother-in-law in a household reveals the maiden name of the wife in that family.

Gathering information from all of the censuses builds a fuller picture of the people of Fair Haven.
